The IAKS Congress for the Design, Construction, Modernization and Management of Sports and Leisure Facilities from 22nd to 25th October 2013 in Cologne is the international forum for experts in sports and leisure facilities. IAKS expects over 500 participants from over 40 different nations. These include architects, engineers, clients, designers, local-authority decision-makers, technical and operative management, sports federations and clubs and the European trade press.
Following the tremendous success of the Olympic and Paralympic Venues of the 2012 Summer Games, the IAKS Congress will put a focus on the post-games situation of the London venues, but also look closely at community infrastructure for sports, leisure and recreation in the United Kingdom.
New technologies for construction and management of facilities, optimizing multipurpose use and operational functions as well as energy savings and climate protection, will be presented. Experts from the International Paralympic Committee and the IAKS will discuss new aspects and future needs for inclusive design and accessibility.
Other intended Congress topics cover the needs of developing countries, security issues in football stadiums, turf systems for football grounds, technical infrastructure for outdoor activities as well as designing urban green areas to enhance physical activity.
The absolute highlight of the IAKS Congress will be the prize-giving ceremony for the IOC/IAKS Award, the IPC/IAKS Distinction and the IOC/IPC/IAKS Architecture and Design Award for Students and Young Professionals in the evening of 22nd October 2013.
The Ordinary IAKS General Assembly will also take place on the occasion of the congress.
