Workshop leader: Dr. Gustavo Amaral
This workshop shows how architects can use AI programming to perform sophisticated urban data analysis for the planning and evaluation of sports facilities. Participants will explore real-world applications of geodata analysis, walkability assessment, and accessibility mapping. The session will cover practical tools for integrating data science into planning practice, transforming complex urban datasets into actionable insights for sports facility site selection and community integration assessment.
Dr. Gustavo Amaral is an assistant professor at the University of Kansas and directs the Sports and Recreation Program and the Stadia Urban Observatory. He holds a PhD in architectural technology from Georgia Tech and specializes in computer design and urban data science. His research analyzes large-scale infrastructure using geospatial analysis and AI, and develops innovative pedagogical approaches that integrate programming and urban analysis into architectural education.
