STADTundRAUM – The Public Space Area at FSB
The thematic area “STADTundRAUM” once again took a central position in Hall 9 at FSB 2025. The concept, which had been presented since 2005 in close cooperation with Rolf von der Horst and his team, was continued and focused on current topics in public space planning, as well as play and movement spaces.
With the planerFORUM as a professional supporting program for planners, municipalities, landscape architects, and schools, the planerLOUNGE as a meeting and networking area, and numerous special topics, this curated area held a special attraction for trade visitors.
What made this area particularly appealing was the unique combination of exhibitors, themes, information, and special exhibition formats. It had become an indispensable part of the FSB for the topics of public space – playground equipment – movement spaces.
In 2025, manufacturers of playground equipment and urban furniture participated in special exhibitions on topics such as accessibility, sustainable products, inclusion, and intergenerational concepts.
- Richter Spielgeräte GmbH
- Kinderland Emsland - ESF Emsland Spiel- und Freizeitgeräte GmbH & Co.
- SIK-Holzgestaltungs GmbH
- SYN-play GmbH

In addition to the presence of well-known manufacturers, the area “STADTundRAUM” is also known for showcasing renowned planning offices from the field of landscape architecture who presented their work in the planerLOUNGE. These planning offices also shaped the content program on various days.
On all four days of the trade fair, an extensive programme of lectures were presented on the planerFORUM stage in Hall 9 in collaboration with Playground@Landscape. This year’s focus topics include:
- Water in play and open space planning
- Inclusive planning of play and exercise areas
- Schoolyards as movement spaces

For the first time, FSB Cologne 2025 presented an inclusion trail that introduced trade visitors to innovative solutions for inclusive play and meeting spaces. The aim was to break down barriers and create spaces for everyone. Equipment sponsored by leading companies included:
- Inclusive swing seat & inclusive ropeway seat
- Sand tables for interactive play
- Fall protection flooring for safety and accessibility
- Spring bench, jumping equipment and rung ladder to promote fun and exercise
Three times a day, experts from the planning office P2 Spielräume offered guided tours of the inclusion trail. They provided practical insights into the design of barrier-free areas and answered questions such as: “How can meeting spaces be designed to be accessible for everyone?” or “What role does participation play in planning?”
The special exhibition showed that inclusion in public spaces was more than just ramps and lifts – it also meant promoting encounters and participation. The inclusion trail provided inspiration for landscape architects, operators of public facilities, and planners who saw inclusion as a central element of future projects.
Visitors to FSB discovered how inclusive design made diversity and community possible!
planerLOUNGE
Where planners met planners: The planerLOUNGE was the main gathering place for exhibitors, sponsors and partners in the STADTundRAUM themed area. In this space, renowned agencies, firms and speakers presented their latest projects and encourage the exchange of ideas between professionals. Specialists had the opportunity to network, hold in-depth discussions and initiate new collaborations in a relaxed atmosphere – the ideal place to develop shared ideas.
