Mission, competition and patrons
The International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and the International Association for Sports and Leisure Facilities (IAKS) are committed to advocating for excellence in the visioning, design and operation of fully inclusive and universally accessible indoor and outdoor facilities.
From the small football field around the corner or the urban movement space to sports buildings for large events: Everyone is invited to submit their project for the world's most important international architecture awards for sports, leisure and recreation facilities. Enter outstanding projects for meaningful sustainability and innovation, clear functionality and exceptional architecture, and optimal accessibility in sports and recreation facilities.
The IOC IPC IAKS Architecture Awards, organised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and the IAKS, recognise exceptional creativity.
The architecture awards aim to recognise the architects and planners involved in the design and implementation of the next generation of sports and leisure facilities.
The competition recognises facilities for the following characteristics:
- design concept, programme, functional and technical aspects, innovation
- sustainability aspects and public value
- accessibility and universal design aspects
Since their inception in 1987, the IOC IPC IAKS Architecture Awards have recognised some of the great pioneers and innovators in sports facility design. Over the years, several hundred projects have competed, including some of the best sports facilities in the world. In 2023, our expert jurors will again face the difficult task of selecting the winners.
The application process has already started, the deadline for applications is 30 April 2023, 24:00 Berlin time. The award ceremony will take place on the evening of 24 October 2023 during the IAKS Gala in Cologne.
